What's Coming in Season 2
A new map, major gameplay improvements, REDSEC changes, and a look at what's being developed beyond Season 2 launch — here's the full breakdown.
Season 2 is almost here. Battlefield's developers dropped a comprehensive community update on February 10th outlining what's coming at launch, what's being actively developed, and what the team is testing for the future. Here's everything competitive players need to know.
New Map: Contaminated
Season 2 kicks off with Contaminated, a new map designed to deliver focused combat with multiple pathways and flanking opportunities. Alongside it arrives a Limited-Time Mode that expands Battlefield 6's narrative and introduces new tactical elements in the fight against Pax Armata.
Later in the season, expect a second new high-intensity map and another Limited-Time Mode requiring players to battle through an underground base covered in darkness.
Progression Overhaul
The developers have made meaningful changes to how progression works across the board:
- Broader Challenge Parameters — Daily Challenges have been streamlined. The daily sidearm challenge has been removed from regular rotation, assists now count toward Daily Challenges, and the focus on highly mode-specific challenges has been reduced.
- Faster Battle Pass — Battle Pass Tokens now accumulate more quickly through Career XP and Weekly Challenges, meaning regular play translates into faster progression.
- Better REDSEC Progression — Career XP and Weapon XP earn rates have been increased in both Battle Royale and Gauntlet to better balance progression between REDSEC and standard Battlefield 6 play.
- Career Reward Rebalance — Career and Battle Pass Boosters have been added to earlier Career ranks, particularly to support players who focus on REDSEC, where standard unlocks like gadgets and loadout slots have less direct impact.
Weapon Balance & Movement
Recoil compensation has been made fully consistent across all automatic weapons, resulting in more predictable and reliable handling. A broad tuning pass reinforces role clarity and ensures weapons feel distinct across different combat distances.
Player movement has also been overhauled — updated acceleration curves, smoother vaulting and ladder transitions, and fixes to reduce visual inconsistencies during traversal and close-quarters engagements.
Ongoing Development: What's Next
Beyond the Season 2 launch update, the team is actively working on the following areas:
- Hit registration and netcode
- Ongoing recoil review
- Visibility improvements
- The ping system for map locations
- Additional audio improvements, including footsteps
Some of these improvements are being tested in Battlefield Labs for community-driven iteration before being rolled into upcoming updates.
The team is also targeting a Time-to-Kill (TTK) tuning pass through Battlefield Labs, focused on improving combat readability and consistency — requiring stronger aim accuracy and firing discipline to achieve the fastest TTK. Elements under review include limb multipliers, headshot damage, and ammunition types that enhance headshot effectiveness.
Golmud Railway Is Being Tested
Initial Battlefield Labs sessions have already begun on Golmud Railway, which is set to arrive in a future season. This is not a one-to-one remake — the map is being reworked to fit Battlefield 6's experience, with early impressions highlighting improvements to the northern town area and added cover for infantry movement.
Early player reactions have been positive around the overall scale and flow. Some elements, including the train, were not fully functional in the first session but are already in active development. Testing will continue as the map evolves.
REDSEC: Armor & Tank Access Changes
Two targeted changes are coming to REDSEC for Season 2:
- Armor Availability — Players now drop a minimum of two armor plates on death, and additional plates will have a chance to spawn in Class Crates to improve pacing and survivability throughout matches.
- Vehicle Keycard Cooldown — A cooldown is being introduced on Vehicle Keycards as a mission reward after one is acquired, making it significantly harder to chain tank access back-to-back. Tanks should be meaningful and earned — but multiple tanks active for a single team should remain rare.
